The municipality has a land area of 168.46 square kilometers or 65.04 square miles which constitutes 5.22% of Basilan’s total area. Its population as determined by the 2015 Census was 40,646. This represented 11.73% of the total population of Basilan province, or 1.07% of the overall population of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 241 inhabitants per square kilometer or 625 inhabitants per square mile.

Port Location
Port of Maluso is located at the W-side of the province of Basilan. It faces the BP Jolo on the SW-direction. Main trading, however, is still with the port of Zamboanga.

 Port Facility Layout
The berthing areas at the port of Maluso are provided at the two (2) wharves, namely: the about 27m x 204m and the 121m long respectively. The wharves are well protected from the monsoons
